“Media Freedom: Perspective from Estonia, the Netherlands, and Italy” 30th January 2024

This event, organized under the esteemed patronage of the Embassy of Estonia in Italy and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Italy, is a collaborative effort with Luiss Master’s in Journalism and Multimedia Communication, Luiss Data Lab, and the Italian Digital Media Observatory (IDMO). 

The primary objective of this gathering is to foster a dynamic dialogue on media freedom and the safety of journalists, within the framework of the Media Freedom Coalition (MFC)

We are honored to feature the following distinguished panelists: 

H.E. Paul Teesalu, Ambassador of Estonia to the Italian Republic

Min. Plen. Pauline Diepenbroek, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Gianni Riotta, Director of the Luiss DataLab and IDMO

Pietro Sebastiani, Former Ambassador of Italy to the UN organisations in Italy

Peter ter Velde, Security Coordinator NOS (Dutch National Broadcaster) and Project Manager PersVeilig (Safety platform for the media)

Signe Ivask, Assistant Professor and a Research Fellow, Sociology of Journalism at University of Tartu

Alberto Flores d’Arcais, Co-director of the Master of Journalism and Multimedia Communication 

Additional notable participants include Jessica Cupellini, Head of the theStratCom Unit of Farnesina, and Maia Klassen, Coordinator of Media Literacy Program at the University of Tartu.

This initiative aims to deepen our collective understanding of the profound impact of media freedom on the security, prosperity, and overall well-being of societies.
